An unconfident man becomes the dark Venom/Spawn-like antihero NYC needs.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Thank you all!
about 2 years ago – Fri, Apr 15, 2022 at 09:42:19 AM

On behalf of the entire Knightwrath team, let me say THANK YOU!! Thank you for your generous and tremendous support of our antihero tale's first issue! It means so much to me, Gabe, David, Daniel, and Francisco!

Now, to use a title of a song from Hamilton: "What comes next?"

As we speak, Kickstarter is beginning to get the funds. There are some people whose cards didn't go through, but you have a few days to correct this. It takes up to a couple weeks for KS to process the funds and, after fees, send the funds to me. After that, we're off to the races! Production, printing, and shipping.

Speaking of shipping, that will once again be handled by the amazing Laurie Foster of Unlikely Heroes Studios. We'll be setting up the Backerkit for Knightwrath soon, and when things are ready, we'll send out surveys. Now, you won't be charged any additional fees via Backerkit; I know some campaigns do, but we won't.

And what comes after that? Well, a return to NYC in the 1900s is in order. This summer, I'll be Kickstarting the first trade of American Dreams. After all, it's all connected.

With immense gratitutde,

DK

The Final Countdown!
about 2 years ago – Thu, Apr 14, 2022 at 11:13:46 AM

So, this is it. The beginning of the end of the beginning (say that three times fast!).

As of this writing, we are 15 hours or so away from the end of the campaign. And not a moment too soon! Why? Because of your generous support, you have unlocked the pencils-only PDF for ALL backers! So you'll be able to see Gabe's raw pencil art in a lovely "unwrapped" PDF. That's IF we remain at or above 10.5k when the campaign ends; but I don't foresee an issue.

And now, the final campaign recommendation:

Slice of Life #1-2 - Queer WEBTOON with an Anime Twist

When gritty anime protagonist, Lady Vengeance, is brought to the real world by a super fan, she'll learn there's more to life than darkness and revenge...and she'll find love with the super fan's twin sister - a kind-hearted cheerleader.

Slice of Life is a queer romance that deconstructs the "slice of life" genre, unpacking the importance of everyday narratives to tell a larger story about the meaning of life from the point of view of a fictional character.

Issue 1 saw Yuriko/Lady Vengeance come to life and get her first taste of the life outside of a TV show. Issue 2 will see Yuriko and her future girlfriend, Lucy, get to know each other better as Yuriko adjusts to the freedom and uncertainly of real life.

This book is co-created by my friend, Kickstarter consultant (including this campaign), and comic con partner in comic selling Kat Calamia, along with my buddy Phil Falco. If you haven't read this duo's other works (such as Like Father Like Daughter, The Dancer and Haunting), you should check out this collected version of their hit webtoon. (Plus maybe pick up their other work too ;) )

Once again, thank you so much for your generous support (and once again I sound like PBS Pledge Week). I'll see you guys tomorrow afternoon or evening to talk about what happens next.

Sticker Unlocked-The Final Approach
about 2 years ago – Wed, Apr 13, 2022 at 11:03:32 AM

Hey everyone!

With your powers combined, you've unlocked a sticker for physical backers! We got only one more stretch goal to reach! At $10.5k, we unlock the pencils only art PDF of the book. I really want to reach that goal so you guys can check out Gabe's awesome pencils.

And in these closing hours of the campaign, I'd like to thank you all for your support of the project! This has really surpassed my wildest hopes for this campaign, and it's all thanks to you guys!

Meanwhile here are some other campaigns you should also take a look at:

GreenZone Life in the Blocks:

In a world where anyone could be born with superpowers, genomes are viewed as walking weapons… supervillains waiting to happen. Cast out of society and forgotten, they are forced into Greenzones, and packed into super powered ghettos called “the Blocks”. The only hope for a better life is the Genome Citizenship Accords of 1968 which state “any genome that proves their worth by serving the greater good for a period of no less than five consecutive years, may earn their citizenship, right to vote, and right to own property…”   So, if you want to claw your way out of the blocks, and get a chance for a better life, you have to risk it all in either the military, fire department, or the police force. This is the story of three new recruits to the police force on their first shift in the G-unit.

Last Ride of the 4 Horsemen: Conquest 1-2 - Epic Steampunk

Last Ride of the 4 Horsemen is the tale of Cager Dobbin, a local hired gun, and his battle to survive the monstrous Horsemen who emerge, one by one from nowhere, to destroy his town of Promise. Cager is assisted by the local tycoon who employs him, the mayor wed to this tycoon, and the town sheriff on the payroll of that same tycoon.

OF BITTER SOULS 400 PAGE OMNIBUS DRAWN BY NORM BREYFOGLE

Four people from different walks of life, all of whom are either criminals or trapped in a unforgiving and unfortunate life... are literally erased by a mysterious Pastor named Secord. Secord, a harsh taskmaster, endows the quartet with powers that are directly related to each team member's worst character flaw.  Winston Fontenot is a dirty, violent, murderous cop with a terrible temper. He is given incredible super human strength.  A gangbanging drug addict named George is given the power to shapeshift and become whomever he wants to be. Lynette Story, an addicted gambler and con artist is given the ability to turn back time 13 seconds and a young woman named Magz, a woman who has been trapped in human trafficking and the sex trade, is given the power to control minds after not having had any control for years.  Together, these four "BITTER SOULS" are brought together to deal with the ghosts and spirits that are so prevelent in their home town of New Orleans, Louisana. The stories are pulled straight from actual myths and ghost stories from the bayou.

That's all from me for now. Once again, thank you so much!

Bookmarks Ahoy!
about 2 years ago – Thu, Apr 07, 2022 at 06:22:01 AM

Hey everyone!

We hit $8.5k! Which means we have hit the amount needed to unlock bookmarks for physical backers! If we hit $9.5k, physical backers will be getting stickers! Let's keep it going!

And now, some other Kickstarters you might be interested in!

Night Wolf 1-6

Rodney Marcelli, a small town high school senior from a wealthy family, had everything a teenage boy could want; popularity, a beautiful girlfriend, and a full-ride football scholarship to Keystone State University. However, as his eighteenth birthday draws near Rodney is haunted by nightmares of ghoulish creatures and visions of losing his loved ones. During his waking life, Rodney starts to notice elements of his nightmares are coming true as vampires, werewolves, witches, and demons start to invade his sleepy little town.

(Rob is also one of my fellow creators on Cthulhu Invades Wonderland, and you get a cool crossover print for backing both, just saying)

Fallen 1-4

The FALLEN series is back with it's 4th issue in a 6 part series.  FALLEN blends the genres of mystery and fantasy by creating a thrilling mythological noir story for mature readers. The story takes place in the vibrant, synth-pop filled era of the 1980's in the loud, crowded streets of New York City.

Could the killer be revealed in this issue? I guess we'll have to find out!

The Olympian crime family is still recovering from the loss of their godfather and Athena is trying to maintain order. Casper Clay, at the request of Aphrodite started investigating the case behind the backs and against the wishes of the Olympian family.

After the attack on the Ragnarok MC's, Odin believes there's possibly a plot a foot.  Izanagi and the Shinto gods have arrived in NYC and the dynamic between the godly crime families is just getting worst. As bodies start piling up, Casper is having a harder time keeping the mythological criminal underworld out of the spotlight of the mortal world.

Immortal Era 1-6

Welcome back to the Immortal Era, a post-apocalyptic world set 200 years in the future. A hopeless world. A world without death. This is not a world of ageless vampires or superheroes. Instead, it is an overpopulated world where humanity grows old beyond what natural life should ever allow.

In the year 2000, as the world prepared to ring in the new millennium, a well-meaning son is manipulated into committing a heinous act that forever alters the course of human history; an act that rings in the Immortal Era.

200 years later, mired with the curse of immortality, the population fights for basic survival. In an overpopulated world, devoid of the resources needed for survival, a group of outcasts, forced by their government, to live in an abandoned subway system, have discovered a relic from the past. A relic that will lead them on a quest with one goal: to save humanity - by killing them.

The Bar 1-2

The Bar is a cinematic drama/horror series with elements of supernatural best described as Law and Order meets Tales from the Crypt or Black Mirror.  If you like pulp horror, Sandman, dark Image books like Ice Cream Man, or old school DC/Vertigo you'll love The Bar.  Each story is a 22 page self-contained comic, and each with a new guest.  All tell their story to The Bartender who may at times become a part of it--most end in a fitting poetic justice.  The series explores humanity's dark underbelly, highlights the nameless/faceless and reflects on the evils of our world.

And you can read a short preview of the book here!

That's all from me for now! Talk to you later!

Sharing the Love!
about 2 years ago – Wed, Apr 06, 2022 at 11:12:20 AM

Hey everyone.

Today marks the halfway point of this Kickstarter's journey. Thank you so much for supporting the book! I thought I'd share the love by showing you some campaigns you might be interested in as well!

Frankenstein The Unconquered

Frankenstein the Unconquered is a story about violence as a mode of survival, the destructive inertia of revenge, and how toxic masculinity damages individuals and the environment around them. It's a love letter to pulpy adventure comics and films like Conan the Barbarian and Mad Max as well as Universal Horror Monsters and the literature that inspired them.

500 years in the future, the arctic thaws and the Beast awakens to a bombed out post-apocalypse as hideous and hostile as he is. Seeing an opportunity to reinvent himself and live the peaceful life he always wanted, the Beast attempts to settle down and live simply with villagers who are unafraid of his ghastly appearance. But when soldiers come to collect their due, violence is the only answer the Beast can come up with, and his dream of living simply is ripped away.

Having followed his war path to its bloody conclusion, the Beast was exiled to the stars, his legacy tarnished, his family flayed before his eyes. For thirty years, the world has known an uneasy peace, but the Beast never stopped fighting for control and now, on the dawn of the 200th year, the sky explodes and the Beast, bathed in the cosmic blood of stars and comets, has returned. God help anyone who stands in his way.

Shockheaded Peter

Part one of a planned 3-part horror-fantasy graphic novel of marvelous retribution and dreadful delight, Shockheaded Peter is a cautionary tale about the harbinger of punishment and a teenage girl’s desire to join his disturbing crusade. When Shockheaded Peter arrives in the small town of Winding Springs, he sets in motion a macabre game of cat and mouse that has terrible consequences for all the malicious townsfolk. As gruesome and fantastical punishments are doled out, our teenage heroine Ruby, a girl with an actual broken heart, discovers her true purpose. Shockheaded Peter conjures up a crossbreed of Labyrinth and A Nightmare on Elm Street with Tim Burton vibes sprinkled on top.

Balor 1-2

In Ancient Ireland, Balor was one of the fiercest and most powerful evils! Known as Balor of the Evil Eye due to the destructive power of his cursed eye. Balor would eventually fall and his eye would create the crater which would become Loch an Suil (Lake of the Eye).

For millennia many tried to syphon the power of Balor from the Earth by creating shrines to the Demon King, but all were stopped by the power Faeries tasked with keeping his magic from falling into the wrong hands, until Sean James was deemed worthy...

Bloodhound-Shooter

Check out this dark 90s style shoot-em-up video game, which Knightwrath artist Daniel Erm worked on!
